Magic Week in Colon Michigan Aug 4-7

Send this picture as an ecard
As usual we will make the trip to Colon Michigan for the annual Magic Get together which we hope will provide enough magic in Michigan to get rid of this curse permanently. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this event, here is what happens (Its alot of fun for the entire family and all are invited, some events are free, others you have to pay for, go to http://www.magicgettogether.com for more info).

The Abbott Magic Co., the Colon Lions Club, and the Colon Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the 73rd annual Abbott Magic Get Together, august 4,5,6,7, 2010. Watch as the village of Colon (population 1,200) doubles in size and turns into the Magic Capitol of the World.

Besides magicians performing in the streets, restaurants and bars, the Annual Craft and Arts Fair is held in town on Friday and Saturday. The Chamber of Commerce will have free fire works after the Friday evening show. Colon has one of the most unique cemeteries in the world where headstones memorialize the famous and not so famous magicians. Some are already buried and some yet to be buried. You can bring your swim suits because Colon has a public beach.

Each of the four days ends with a world class magic and variety show held in the air-conditioned Colon High School Auditorium. Each of the four evening shows is DIFFERENT, with comedy, large stage illusions, animals and variety acts. Tickets for the shows are $20.00 for reserved seats and $15.00 for side bleacher seating (reserved by section). Some of the highlights this year will include:

Wednesday August 4th will start with an act that last appeared at the Get Together 67 years ago before leaving for WWII. Bill Pitts opened the show back then and will again this year. We also have acts from England and Japan on this show along with a Juggler, Jim Oakley from Branson, MO. Gordon Miller, a Colon resident will MC this show.

Thursday, Aug 5th will feature an international two time gold medal winner, George Saterial. Mark Cannon will attempt a death defying escape. Chained in an open box below 24 blades of steel, he will attempt to escape before the rope burns through crashing into him. This is only one of a few escapes he will attempt. Mark Merchant, a cruise ship performer, is a man of many voices with characters to match will M.C. this show.

Friday, August 6, the show will be M.C.ed by Paul Emmick, the Fox weatherman from Louisville, KY. Liu Zihao, from China, will be making his first U.S. appearance. He’s the China National Champion Magician. Bob Higa will feature the large illusions that are seldom seen anymore.

Saturday, August 7 we have a star studded show featuring Chris Hart, who played the hand in the Addams Family Movie. His hands really are magical. Also is John Carney who appeared on the David Letterman show last month.

These are just some of the acts booked this year.

We also have a Benefit Matinee on Saturday afternoon with tickets at $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for senior citizens and children under 12. this Show benefits the Colon Lions Club.

Remember when we were better than New Orleans?

Remember that Christmas day not too long ago, the Lions rushed out their field goal unit and Jason Hanson kicked a field goal as time expired. That year once again the Lions were battling for high draft picks and that field goal dropped the Lions about 6 places, although it was an awesome victory on Christmas day.

The point is, the Lions were bad and the Saints were worse. Now the Saints are in the Superbowl. I feel like the Lions are living on the island of misfit toys, always waiting for next year to come.

So the Saints now go to the Superbowl for the first time, and the Lions are still bad and heading into the draft with the second pick overall.

It’s worse than the island of misfit toys, because the Lions seem to be all by themselves on that island, all the other toys have found homes, including now the Saints.

Predicting Lions is Easy

First, they will lose all away games so the absolute best they can do is 8 and 8, figure they will split their home games so 4-12 for next year is a good bet. There are also certain bets, such as the Lions will lose any game played in San Francisco, Green Bay, and Washington.

Do you think there is any chance we might get a Monday night game? Not next year but perhaps the next next year.

Upcoming Draft, will it help much?

Last year the Lions traded Roy Williams and came away with a slew of draft picks from Dallas, coupled with their own and the lack of Matt Millen at the helm, the Lions had a good, no, they had a great draft. They also only won 2 more games than they did the year before, kind of shows how bad they are. Now, the way I see it, they do not have all those picks this year, and everyone else in the league hopes to improve as well, what makes anyone think that this draft will produce more than 2 more wins?

Fact is they were damn lucky not to go winless again this year.

Trade away the #2 pick, even if Soo is available, trade it, trade it, trade it. If its a good team with a good record take their #1 and #2 pick for this year and next year. We need more talent, trade down please. We need a foundation, trade down please.

Look for the Lions to hit 4 wins next year, if they are lucky and have another good draft. I see no salvation for this team for at least 3 years, probably 5.

We Are That Bad

Seeing the Chicago game really made it sink in. We are this bad. I thought they might win this game, Chicago at home, no motivation for the bears. But it ended very poorly for the Lions with a double digit loss in front of their home crowd. You just can’t do that, not against mediocre teams.

I remember when the Lions went 2-14 not too long ago, so many games were close. You can’t really say that this year. We are not even close. I have no doubt in my mind that the 0-16 Lion team that started the year in 08 would beat the 2-14 Lions that finished this year. They have so many needs still, if they can get someones 1st and 2nd round picks for their first pick they should do it, they need both quality and quantity.

We need another good draft like next year, and we may win 4 or 5 games with a little luck, which would put us in the lower end of mediocre.

Lions geared for “next year”

Nothing but good news from the Lions, Staffords surgery went well and he will be ready for “next year”, they are guaranteed a first, second, or third pick from the draft for “next year”, and Coach Schwartz says “winning will bring people into the stands” in an obvious reference to “next year”.

I am so tired of waiting for “next year”

Could have been worse – Lions lose 20-6

Really, what did anyone expect considering that the Lions have not won in San Francisco since 1975. They started out like gang bangers for sure, but in the end it was another double digit road loss, their 20th in a row.

This road loss thing is simply unGodly. They currently have the 4th consecutive road losses in NFL history, they have not won a road game in over two years. The most pathetic thing about this is that they already own the record at 24 which they did earlier in this decade (2001-2003) so now one has to ask themselves what the most pitiful road record in a decade is and I am pretty certain the Lions will claim that prize as well. I remember the first streak and they had a couple close games, these games have been double digit losses going back to probably the Minnesota loss (Orlovski, Safety, ring a bell) if my memory serves. How can you draft so high for so long and be this bad.

I think the players tried today, but there is just not enough talent anywhere for this thing to go anywhere. I can’t see Calvin Johnson resigning with us either. He’ll probably end up traded next year ala Roy Williams. Why would he or anyone stay here with a bit of talent when all that will happen is double and triple teams.

To show how far down the totem poll the Lions are, the 49ers are trying to break .500 for the first time in 7 years. They are mediocre at best, but the Lions are at least two touchdowns below mediocre it appears.

Next week a sub mediocre team will come to Ford Field, the Lions actually might have a chance to pull something off here but I don’t expect to see it happen, probably just another blacked out game-a fitting end to another wasted year with another record setting losing streak to try and break next year.

What a pathetic decade.

Card Collectors to jump off Stafford Bandwagon

According to what I have been reading, football card collectors are going to be going after Stafford cards this off season because they believe they will be cheap until he proves that he can come back from the off season surgery. So if you wanted a Matt Stafford rookie card but thought they were too expensive this year, wait till this season is over and you should do well at the card collector shop.

Wishing everyone a Great Holiday Season

Hope everyone has a great Holiday season.  This has certainly been a tough year, unemployment still at record heights, value of home falling, and certainly not a banner year for our sports team.  The Red Wings gave up a 3 games to 2 lead in the Stanley Cup Finals, losing in game 7 to Pittsburgh, and what the Tigers did was certainly very Lionesque.  What makes Christmas so great is that for one day none of that stuff matters.
